Om Shanti Shanti Shanti Om
Om Tat Sat
There are so many mantra's that use Aum or Om. It's a chant heard in many new age, spiritual and yoga circles.
Why Om and what makes Om so important?
Om or Aum is a Sanskrit word with the sound symbolising the sound of the Universe. In some Hindu texts Om is the primordial seed of the Universe, in one ancient text it states that this whole world is nothing but Om.
As such it is considered to be the root of all mantras. The sage Vyasa noted that through chanting Om the supreme soul is revealed. The Tibetan scholar Lama Govinda advises that Om expresses and leads to the experience of the infinite within us.
According to Grand Master Choa Kok Sui "The Mantra Om is the Creative Sound. Omnipresent, Omniscience, Omnipotence, Omniprovidence are all manifestations of the different aspects of God."
The three different sounds of Om - A-U-M- represent various trinity's that makes up the basis of many religions and faiths around the world.
In Hinduism this is called Parabrahman, which breaks down to Shiva or God the power, Vishnu or God the Love and Brahma or God the Creator.
In Buddhism the Universal Buddah is the Adhi Buddha, which breaks down into Buddha the power, Buddha the Love and Buddha the Creative intelligence.
In Christianity it is God, breaking into God the father, God the son and God the Holy Spirit.
This stretches back to Ancient Egypt with the Universal Supreme Being called Amen, than breaking down to Osiris, Isis and Horus.
Each symbol is the sound of the different aspects of the Universe or the Creator, whichever term is your preference to use. If you take the aspects of Power, Love and Creative intelligence, all three aspects are needed to create life, and life to survive requires the world, solar system and universe.
How does this work in a mantra?
Each of the sounds has a metaphysical association of the three aspects. A represents our waking state, and our subjective consciousness of the outer world. U represents our dreaming state or our inner world of thoughts and dreams, M represents our unity with oneness and the universe.
By using the chant in the various mantras we increase the rate of vibration of the soul, by chanting Om it helps to gradually disintegrate the negative thoughts and emotions within the aura.
So how does chanting Om help with daily life?
Well as discussed chanting Om helps us to connect to the Universe, by increasing our vibration of the soul, meaning it helps us to connect to the I am, which is our higher soul or essence of being. As the chant disintegrates and clears our chakras and aura we are more easily able to centre and reach higher frequencies within ourselves and the Universe as a whole. Helping us to achieve stillness and oneness with all.
