The importance of Self Care

Self-care, what is it and why is it so important to your well-being? 

What is self-care?

Self-care is is any activity that we in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health.

Such an action is needed to enhance your well-being and health.

A proper Self-care plan will help to reduce stress and sustain a more positive outlook on life.

The plan should include a balanced diet and physical exercise, but it is more than just the physical needs to the body. Activities such as colouring, or dancing help to feed and nurture the heart and soul.

In this fast paced we live, people are starting to feel the burnout factor that comes from constantly being on the go and not taking the time to rest and recharge.

Why is this important?

It's important as if you're not healthy then how are you able to take care of those around you.

For a balanced self-care plan you'll need to make sure the following points are included in your day to day life.

A balanced and varied diet, including the recommended 5 serves of vegetables and 2 serves of fruit.  Making sure that you are consuming all the nutrients, antioxidants and fibre that your body needs to keep it fueled and healthy. 

Exercise helps to keep your body physically fit and healthy and also a great stress reliever. All you need to start with is 30 minutes a day.  Go for a walk at lunch, or out on a playlist and dance around the living room, you don't need to do anything fancy, keep it simple.

Activities for the heart and soul. This can be any type of activity that just brings you joy. If you are a creative than write, create, play music.  Grab the sketch book. If its gardening spend time in your garden. Just find the activity that just makes you smile and do it.

Give yourself a pamper session, spend a morning, afternoon or if you can a day, whether it be a massage or a facial, or book in for a well-being session such as the ones we offer at New Hope Well-being Centre.  Just let yourself be pampered every so often. 

For those who believe Self-care is a selfish act, its not it's a self-full act. You are filling yourself up with everything you need to recharge so you can get the most out of your day, without the burnout, stress, and exhaustion.

So make self-care a part of your life and feel the difference, it truly is the best gift you can give yourself to help regain and maintain your health.
