How Reiki is helping me with being in Lockdown

As more and more of the world goes into lock-down to slow the spread of COVID-19, I as I am sure many of you are also doing, have been staying connected with people through phone calls, online, group chats etc.

I have taken note of the overwhelm and anxiety being felt by many, and have been wondering why am not also been feeling the anxiety and overwhelm, and how I have been avoiding the stress of the the time?

While for others it seems to be consuming them whole?

This morning while on a supply run for my grandparents, I came to the realization that Reiki in itself has been the tool that has kept me calm throughout all this.

While there are many pillars that make up Reiki in itself as a whole, there is one pillar in particular that is the reason behind my calm.  That is the Reiki precepts.

I meditate to the precepts daily, and this morning came to realise that the very wording of the precepts is the perfect mantra to helping to cope with our current world crisis.

So what are the precepts?

The precepts are a code of practice taught by Mikao Usui the founder of Reiki to his students, and it is still taught as a part of the Reiki practice to this day.

The precepts are five lines repeated each day as a mantra or affirmation.  I share them with you today in the hope that this practice will help to aid those who are suffering from overwhelm and anxiety during this crisis.

The precepts are:

Just for today I will not worry.

Just for today I will not anger.

Just for today I will be grateful.

Just for today I will do my work honestly.

Just for today I will be kind to every living thing.

How to practice with the precepts?

Meditate on the words, and recite them to yourself each morning before starting your day.

The wonderful thing with the precepts is that you are only promising to do this just for today, so if you slip and start to worry, that's OK.  As tomorrow is always a new day.
